When one thinks of country décor they may sometimes confuse it with cottage, rustic, or shabby chic design. Although each of these décors may have certain elements in common such as colors, furniture, and the overall comfy and outdoorsy atmosphere, there are many aspects of country decorating that make it different from its other stylish cousins.
First off all, one of the most characteristic images of country décor is the rooster. Roosters are primarily associated with farms, and farms are associated with the country. Since roosters are very fashionable in country decorating, especially in kitchen designs, they are available in just about every type of decorating accessory you can imagine. For instance - in regards to a kitchen - roosters can be featured on spoon rests, dish towels, table cloths, placemats, napkins, napkin rings, canisters, dishes, oven mitts, aprons, wall art, clocks, fridge magnets, and so on.
Of course, roosters are not the only farm animals you can use in your country décor. Any classic country animal (I.E. ducks, sheep, pigs, horses, etc.) can be a decorative option. That being said, it's time to take a look at the many other charming decorations that can be utilized in a room to give it a unique and less typical country appeal.
Hand designed signs - Do you remember the old advertising signs that were hand-lettered or hand-painted? These nostalgic signs that were posted on old country roads advertised everything from eggs and milk, to the ice-cream flavor of the day. These colorful signs will add an antique quality to your country room, and also give it interesting character.
Sock Darners - These are old sewing tools that were used to hold tightly stretched fabric in place while it was being mended or darned. Although these antique items can only be used for decoration now, there is now doubt they will be an excellent conversational piece in your country décor.
Oil lamps - Antique oil lamps are a great way to provide your country theme with an antique feel, as well as give it a little elegance. A good idea is to display an old fashioned oil lamp with new lamps that have been made with the same old look, but have been designed to be used with candles. Lighting these lamps can create wonderful ambience and a cozy country atmosphere.
Wooden wagon - Obtain a small antique wooden wagon or wheel barrel and use it to display a plant or a pot of flowers. This will brighten the room and add life to your country décor.
Woven baskets - Various sized and shaped woven baskets can be used throughout the room to hold plants, flowers, fruit, etc. You can select brown baskets or choose a color to match the other hues within your theme.
Other unique country décor items you can display around the room include: antique wooden game boards, mortar and pestle, iron pot, hooked rugs, paint-by-number, hanging salt box, hanging match holders, and a cracker tin.
There is no reason why you have to be ordinary when choosing country décor, when you can strive to be unique by blending the present country with the past.
